- Marz Ville -

“My dream is to perform in every country around the world, so that every household knows Soca music”

Omar McQuilkin also known as ‘Marz Ville’ is no stranger to the music industry with just over 18 years under his belt.

“I like to think of myself as a versatile, multi-talented individual, a young yet experienced entertainer who is big on principle and discipline.”

I first entered popular Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition in Barbados, when I was 15 years old and won my preliminary and went to finals where I did very well. This competition is used as a platform for many aspiring artistes. The training and exposure associated with the show provides great opportunities for young people and helps develop their talent.

Omar McQuilkin became Marz Ville in 2015. I believe that as an artiste, you have to constantly be evolving with the times and shaping your product. You must rebrand yourself and keep coming fresh and appealing to your audience.

How did you manage the impact of your first hit?

I was extremely humbled by the response. The encouragement and love from the fans helped me to keep pushing myself towards excellence.

Soca Monarch Competition

Finalist of Sweet Soca Monarch 2k17 in Barbados and Finalists of the International Soca Monarch 2k18 in Trinidad , what will you remember of these moments ?

I always love to put on a show and see people enjoying themselves. I would always remember the crowd reaction to the performance and how much they enjoyed themselves. I will always remember the hard work my team and I put in to achieve the desired results.

Touchdown in Paris, next stop : Martinique!

Where was the most unexpected place you perform at?

They are quite a few places, some names I can’t even pronounce. One of the most unexpected places I would say however was Paris France.

You will perform at the next Caribbean Dream event on 9th february in Martinique, what can you say about your experience with french spoken massive?

It has been great so far. They have been very welcoming and embracing. It’s amazing to see people who are not well versed in English, singing my songs. It’s truly a humbling experience and an amazing sight to see.

As an ambassador of Barbados, if someone want to go there, what can you advise them?

Don’t hesitate to visit. It’s a small island but very beautiful with lots to do. The highlight of the island is it’s people. We are a very warm, friendly, loving people and we welcome visitors with open arms, treating them like family.
