My Influences

From yesterday are all the ones that stood out against injustice in all forms and on all levels, the ones that stood for love, all the ones that stood for the people, the ones that stood for Culture and my influences of today are all the Ones standing for the same cause working towards similar or a greater objective.

“The struggle continues, victory is sure.”

Sound System

I have a lot of favorite sound systems but if I was to single out one it would have to be King Jammy’s Super Power from Water House.

Growing up as a likkle girl in Hermitage there was a small sound system in my yard that my cousin use to own and operate, this was what created the first fascination of such a great invention and growing up in Jamaica overall where this is our culture I fell in love the first time heard and felt the Baseline and the rest is history which made way for I to pen the song “Sound System”. What I admire most about the sound system is that is a tool that can amplify positive vibes and send vibrations across the seas and over the mountains spreading the culture like wild fire ingnighting the world.

Respect to all the energies that made it possible special love goes out to The Lineage Family, Birz I, Imaali. #InTheGhetto / #WhereImFrom #DubWise #HeartOfAlion

My experience being apart of the project Havana Meets Kingston by Jake Savona is a joyous one. Jake saw me and and the other members of the Lineage Family performing at weekly culture event called Dub school and invited us to be apart of the project, a couple of days later we linked up with him and he told us about the project and we proceeded. The concept was fresh, Cuban and Jamaican music combined with the music being played by legendary musicians form both countries and to top it off with some talented young artist spitting conscious lyrics.

“I BLEND DIFFERENT TYPE OF GENRES TOGETHER TO CREATE MY OWN SOUND”

I am a singer, songwriter with some acting aspirations. I enjoy the entire creative process of the entertainment industry and take pride in being involved in the full process. This includes writing, recording, and performing my creations.

#GENREFLUID

K’CONEIL — Genrefluid is a concept that me and my manager came up with that truly defines my music and has evolved into a movement and a brand. We define it as “the ability to float in and out of different genres, in an attempt to create a palette of sonic perfection.” Its basically encouraging the release of artistry and the support of creativity. It’s our way of not being bogged down by stereotypes and peoples attempts to put you in boxes. These labels and boxes is a way of limiting ones. potential or creativity and hence your heights. I’m trying to promote this message in my merchandise on my websites, www.kconeilmusic.com and www.genrefluid.com Will it be the title of my first album? I doubt that, but the music will definitely be in that vein.

LOVE / LUST EP HITS BILBOARD CHARTS

K’CONEIL — LOVE / LUST EP

Buy On iTunes

K’CONEIL — I’ve had so many notable moments in my short career thus far. My Lovelust EP debuting at number 20 on the Billboard Reggae chart and number 10 on iTunes reggae charts is by far my biggest achievement to date. I have being blessed with several number one rankings for different songs off the EP but none top those two achievements for me.

MY INFLUENCES

K’CONEIL — I grew up in a singing household where we went to church every week and I started singing there. Gospel music was instrumental in teaching me how to sing with soul and to connect from the heart. There’s nothing like singing to and for a higher power that you cant see but believe in. I take that same approach in my delivery and try to convert my audience into believers by using lyrics, melodies, and tones to touch their hearts.

Outside of the church, I was and am still a big fan of Soul and RnB music ; So guys like R Kelly, Babyface, Brian McKnight captivated me early with their writing and singing styles. SInging their songs at an early age really helped me to develop my early admirers and helped me in the girlfriend department, too.

“I fell in love with that sound”

Beres Hammond is also another one of my influences, for his tone and command of his lower registry that pushed me to experiment with and try to develop mine. .Beenie man, may be my all time favorite artist because of his ability to masterfully handle any audience during a performance.

MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Mainstream could compare you to Usher, Kranium, OMI…but you probably don’t like to be put in a box so tell me about your secret sauce..

K’CONEIL — Comparisons in this business are inevitable, fortunately these comparisons put me in good company as these are all artists I actually like and respect and are successful in their own right. It means my music is probably being received favorably and for that I’m grateful. However, I would like to think that I have developed my own “Genrefluid” sound in which I blend different types of genres together to create my own sound.

“Unfortunately I can’t tell you the sauce… as you stated it is secret so I want to keep it that way lol.”

THE ISLAND BOY IN ME

My fan base is growing daily in the US as well as Jamaica and the greater Caribbean. The island boy in me will always be in my music and adds a lot of the spice in that secret sauce that you mentioned earlier. That element I hope will make me endearing to my Caribbean fans and as I continue to release more music, I look forward to bringing my performances to these Island shores and convert the lovely people into fans.

LOVE HOW YOU WHINE

Tell us more about your song and video with Kreesha Turner? How you met and how it happened?

K’CONEIL — I met Kreesha Turner a couple years ago when we performed on New York’s Radio Station Hot 97 On The Reggae and Soca Tip show and we basically kept in contact ever since. Due to our schedules we never got the chance to work on any music. However, when I recorded this track. “Love How You Whine” the producer Troyton Remi made the suggestion to add a female to the record and Kreesha instantly came to mind. We sent it to Kreesha and she didn’t hesitate to say yes. Kreesha flew to NY the following week and we got in the studio and knocked it out in one night and the rest is history. The song is really about appreciating the cultural gyration of our women that we call ..Whining and how this phenom impresses itself on men worldwide. Its an art that I feel compelled to highlight and encourage, if you know what I mean (sic).

F.W.I & I

Have you ever visited or played in the French West Indies, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Martin, French Guina to name a few? Could it happen?

K’CONEIL — Unfortunately I haven’t but I am definitely looking forward to it in the near future. I hear French is the language of love so I’m anxious to bring the Love/Lust experience to these shores.
I touch a little of everything. I love composing melodies and arranging and I do write and play the Drums.”

Arita has been singing professionally for a little over a year, but really all her life. As a young girl, she entered Calypso competitions when she was attending secondary school and would always participate in any activity once creativity was involved. So she was always really preparing to Sing.

HER INFLUENCES

Life, everyday we wake up knowing that we have a purpose to fulfill, when God decided to place us on this earth, he sent me to complete a job. This is to influence others with my music and through me as a person. The Good Lord is my main influence. Personally, I also have role models in my life that I am very grateful for that influence my thinking and approach to life, family and my own personal development.

“The Good Lord Is My Main Influence”

My musical influences are the greats, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, etc. I am also influenced by the younger talent of Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc

The soul of my music gravitates to generating a similar feeling. I am currently developing a sound that is mixed with that soul or blues vibes, but clearly Caribbean influenced.

Caribbean Music is my foundation particularly Calypso & Reggae Music, so I’m determined to make certain to make music for the international audience while continuing to bring forward the awesome sound of the Caribbean.

So, I am really an Artist that is not bound to any one genre, but in love with the sound of my heritage, while developing that sound that incorporates our super-compelling vibe, but touches everyone internationally.

“GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC”

Soca is the Foundation, but Trinbagonian’s love music generally.

Once the beat, lyrics and vibe content connect with the audience, even the most passionate soca-lover will feel it. I’m not a reggae singer, per se, although I LOVE the genre, so coming from the land of Soca has not really been an issue. My intent is to make great music that people will appreciate and be inspired. Indeed, Trinidad does have a number of very talented reggae artistes, which shows that the culture is really one of music-lovers — Thankfully, my music has been well-received at home and is beginning to reach many different parts of the world and I am truly grateful for that.

COLLABORATIONS

“CRISIS” with Queen Ifrica

“I just released a collaboration with the great Queen Ifrica, a song called “Crisis” and it was amazing to collaborate on such a compelling track with this Artist that has been so influential as a female Caribbean Act”

I wish to travel the world with my music, with the opportunity to inspire persons from many cultures and backgrounds — with God’s grace, every Continent!

Collaborations are awesome & I look forward to many others — John Legend would be awesome!!

FIRST ALBUM IS COMING OUT THIS SUMMER!!

I am preparing my first Album scheduled to be released in the summer and I’m told it’s a Monster from persons who had the privilege to listen to it — (smile).

My new video for my song “Everything” is about to drop this week and I’m super-excited for that as well — it’s a beauty! It was shot in my home town of Chatham and exposes all of the beautiful images that make up my home. It was Produced and co-directed by Manager and shot by a group of extraordinarily talented Trinidadian videographers and cinematographers from Forward Focus Media Group. Keep it locked for that video and several others on the horizon.

I prioritize my day, my missions, my objectives almost everything and I must admit I have help. My day is spent doing things that relate to each other, meaning I do gym to keep fit, I keep fit for my daughter and family, I cook to help stay fit as well as keep my family well fed and spend time with them because sometimes I do meetings for a huge part of the day so cooking helps keep the bond. My daughter travels with us and we do homework on the plane or hotel or Bus etc and i get to be Mom from that aspect.

Avoid getting caught up in selling your body, face and sex appeal as your major strengths. Too many women come in industries and seem to love getting compliments on their looks more than their Music and works. They fall into the girl vs girl drama and don’t realize looks fade….Music and real work is timeless.

I don’t like when people create a situation and act like they are victims. I also don’t like when people use the sympathy card to get ahead in life, every body go through tough time but to use it to get people support via them feeling sorry for you is just low.

I LOVE THE FRENCH CARIBBEAN ❤️

We spent so many years enjoying music from that side of the music spectrum that it is nice to be a part of it now. I would definitely love to play in those areas as I always enjoy new zones and places. The cultures are what I like seeing how they live, eat, their music their fashion, their way of talking, how they live etc. All things we use to make music, communicate and understand other cultures. I would definitely love it.

I would definitely recommend it. I have done St Lucia before, but never that event. The Energy of the people, and the fact that I only knew like 2 words in their language and they enjoyed my performance was awesome. It shows the power of performance and Music.

RECOGNITION & CONSISTANCY

How soca & caribbean music can bloom worldwide without loosing its authenticity?

RECOGNITION FOR ITS ORIGIN

The thing is everybody borrows from everybody, we do it with raga soca, pop soca, afro soca, edm soca etc. The problem is not the fusions its the credit not being given aspect thats the problem.

Once the Music is being fused, mixed added etc and recognition is not given to the genre or country it originated from thats the biggest threat, then its seen by the rest of the world as a NEW sound and we who helped keep it alive and viable for years get no acknowledgement. The authenticity of any music will be questioned as long as we have young people taking up the mantle. The music I do now sounds nothing like in my fathers day, and will continue to evolve and change. Recognition for its origin is more important.

CONSISTANCY IS KEY

A constant flow of music and Artiste makes different, its like your fav bakery brings cake and you go back to buy it and theres none, eventually you buy another type of cake and move on. The next is marketing and opportunity. We follow the Ga Ga, and Beyonce with the hair and dress code and look like them and dress like them…. but they’re already doing that, why follow?

Its like some of us are afraid to market our looks so we adopt a look thats familiar and just dress and get a hairstyle like a celeb that already exists. Also from an opportunity we tend to not take risk, meaning some of us only perform for people that know us and stick to safe zones.

“Opportunity to expand also comes from sharing links and creating connections”

THE UNITY

IT’S OK TO BE DIFFERENT BUT THINK ALIKE FOR THE GREATER GOOD

Bunji Garlin & Machel Montano

The unity people saw and continue to see is what is needed, not just for building and industry but because real things come out of real intentions. The message that we are showing, meaning both teams is that for us to have the industry we want we need the best and strongest builders. We need people that are willing to puts aside differences and make mature moves that benefit all. The fans wanted this for a while because they were split between figuring out a way to love and support the both Artiste without feeling like they were being put in a position to choose who was better…. They are different and that is what we want to show. Its ok to be different but think alike for the greater good.

SAFETY PROMO

Our goals is to sell Haitian’s culture ,we bring invaluable home to artists because before us, there was no enterprise that aims to promote an Haitian artist on social network which is currently something very important for Haiti’s music.

SAFETY PROMO’S COMPILATION

“The project I am proud of is SAFETY PROMO’s compilation and with it, I touched a great public”

It’s advantage is to help the Haitian people discover young artists who have got talent but no popular names yet. The task is to put in the light the new young artist and post to provide people with a new source of entertainment.

LEGENDS & NEW TALENTS

SAFETY PROMO is not working with Wesli only, Jah Nissi. I am working with several legends of Haitian music like “ Freedom, Belo, Boukman Eksperyans ” I’m also working with some artist who are promoting the Haitian’s culture internationally like Paul Beaubrun, Ted Beaubrun, Voxsambou, Jakobo and I also support some talented artists like Rutshelle, Mandela, Florwing, Trouble Boy and more.

“Our business is open to everyone”

It is not easy to choose an artist because some artist make it first, others take longer, The important is to seal promotion deals like we are doing and it will not bother those who follow us from day one, no matter what kind of new artists we chose to endorse. I am sensitive to this state of mind as to give a chance to everybody.

For now we are working on albums of Freedom & Atis Mandela for this year.

HAITIAN’S MUSIC WORLD PROMOTION

“We don’t really have people to invest in music. Now we need international labels, because we have many talented artists, great groups, and great musicians in Haiti”

The World recognized Haitian’s music when we have an artist like Belo award RFI ,J.perry who were participating in the Brasilia’s carnival as well as Wesli Louissaint with SOCCAN price and Jean Jean Roosevelt ,Tabou Combo, Boukman Eksperyans entirely dominating the Caribbean scene. Many groups and solo artists participating in the biggest international events.

“I want to tell the youth to follow me & to use the Internet the right way, because technology can help us to succeed in our life if used wisely. We have several people assisting us in this field and we will continue to learn and grow for the benefit of Haitian culture.”

All members met at Edna Manley, it was a custom for all students to form groups as an assignment for performing. From there that is where the idea of having their own band came about. The reason for forming the band was mainly to play reggae music, and this stemmed from music history classes. The college helped with the bands sound in the sense that they were exposed to many different styles of music as well as the lecturers who themselves were veterans.

We would like to see the music industry in country improves, as well as opportunities for jobs, education and healthcare. 🇯🇲

REGGAE ROCKERS 🎸

Rock guitars in our music is something close to our souls as we try to let the instruments be reflective of our souls with authenticity and musicianship.

“The secret is not only within the guitar but with a combination of everyone’s taste and soul that contributes to the overall sound”

Our recent US Tour was great, with packed venues and great sound systems.

Aldayne (lead singer) —

INFLUENCES

THE WAILERS

The Wailers influence on us, is a number of things, the lyrics, harmonies, rebellious spirit, the composition of the music and what shaped our history in Jamaican music.

The music and the message for us stand out more than their accomplishments.

We try to be creative and spend a lot of time with arrangements to express or arrangements in a unique way. However we don’t think we make music comparing ourselves to other bands. We make music base on what and how we feel. With no rules but to express the closest thing to our souls.

EP HARD ROAD

Our upcoming album early in 2017 will show our true sound. Then the world can see how different we are from other bands.

As we all know..

“I BROUGHT COLORS INTO SOCA MUSIC”

THE CAPTAIN’S FORMULA FOR SUCCESS

I introduced myself to the world for 2017 ,as “Captain Yankey Boy”

On a scale from 1 to 100, I suggest you use 10 percent talent, 40 percent who knows you and 50 percent marketing.

In the event that you don’t know 40 percent, market yourself and 40 percent will get to know you.

The reason why you only give 10% talent to move ahead is so others won’t feel intimidated.

🇺🇸US KNOWS

Kevon Health aka Captain Yankey Boy has been in the soca industry for 6 years. As a US based soca artist, he learn to first dominate his home than to dominate outside.

HEAD NICE 2011

One of my first collaborations was with an artist by the name of Patch. Together, we made a song “Head nice”, which was a hit!

BARTENDER 2012

My second successful collaboration was with Makamillion, where we put together “Bartender”

At this time, I am working on a few solo projects.

THE NEXT STEP FOR THIS HIT IS MAINSTREAM

I have great feedback from all those who have heard “Boat rocking”

Like a smell of “Rumors”
